Fotoo is an Android app that beautifully displays various photos.
Connect photos from various sources and a nice digital photo frame is instantly created.
Do you feel uncomfortable with awkward silence when you’re with parents, children, or family and relatives?
In those moments, start a light conversation while looking at photos from the digital photo frame.
We were young back then, the baby was so cute - with a word or two, you travel through time.
Who knows? Maybe looking at a photo from 10 years ago will inspire you to actually travel to that place today?

How to Use

What You Need

  • An Android tablet sitting in a drawer because it’s slow (preferably 10 inches or larger)
  • Tablet stand

Installation

  • Search for Fotoo on Google Play and install
    • If you’re using it yourself, log in with your own Google account.
    • If you’re giving it to someone else, it’s convenient to create a separate Google account and log in.

Setup

  1. Select the photo source.
    • Photo folder (gallery) on the tablet
    • Google Photos, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive
    • Local network (file server)
  2. Select the folder (album) to play in the slideshow.
  3. Done!
  • Purchase paid version (15,000 won)
    • The free version displays a payment notification screen for a certain period during operation.
  • Auto-run on boot
  • Auto on/off: For example, turn on at 7 AM and turn off at 9 PM.
  • Decoration: Date, time, weather

My Experience

Tablet Model Recommendation

  • The Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab YT-X705F model is perfect.
  • When you unfold its built-in stand, you don’t need a separate stand,
  • You can also fully unfold the built-in stand and hang it on a hook.
  • It was widely distributed as a U+tv product, so if you ask around, someone might have one!
  • There are many available on Daangn (Korean used goods marketplace) or secondhand markets too.

Tips for Installing at Parents’ House

  • This only applies if there is internet at your parents’ house.
  • Create a separate account and log in on the tablet. (Free account allows up to 5GB)
  • On your PC, go to Google Photos for the newly created account and create an album.
  • In the Fotoo app, select Google Photos as the photo source and select the newly created album as the folder to play.
  • Bring the set-up tablet to your parents.
  • Later, keep adding photos to that album from your PC and they will automatically play on the tablet at your parents’ house!
  • After setting it up as described above, if you keep the tablet power cable plugged in, it will automatically turn on and off. Even if the battery runs out and the tablet turns off, it will automatically run once you turn it on.
  • It’s more fun than TV when placed on the dining table!

Precautions

  • If there’s no internet, it’s better to put photos in the tablet storage in advance and play them.
  • I strongly recommend purchasing the paid version. If you give the free version to elderly people, they might keep calling you!
